The story behind our Bornholm dining & serving sets
The company Eat-On-Bornholm was founded by Per Andersen, who is also the man behind the development and design of Eat-On-Bornholm.com's products, which are all produced by local companies on the island.
The idea was, and still is, to create a unique dining and serving set with accessories, using products that are part of Bornholm's nature, with added Bornholm craftsmanship.
The concept also includes doing as little as possible with each product, so that the products are as unprocessed as possible, as natural as possible.
From the moment my brother gave me the idea to create ”something Bornholmian to eat on”, throughout the development and design phase, I have emphasised that the products have multiple functions, can be used in different ways, so that they can be used as much as possible.
That's why the wooden base trays, ”Symphony” and the more simple ”Harmony”, are designed so that you can use it as a chopping board on one side, and when you turn it over, it becomes the base tray in our dining & serving sets.
The granite slabs can be both frozen and heated, the oak plank can be flipped over and used for serving, or it can be put in the oven, max. 220°C, so you can use it for e.g. plank steak, plank fish etc.
The bowl holder, the one for the 3 bowls, can also be reversed so that it can be used for serving. Of course, the tapas bowls can also be used for other things besides tapas, such as sushi.
The raw materials
Granite and wood are naturally different and therefore no two products are ever the same, either in terms of colour or pattern.
The ceramics are handmade and the same colour is available in several different variations, lighter or darker, slightly more round or slightly less round, depending on where the product has been in the kiln.
The glassware is never the same either, it's the artisanal process that is never the same from production to production.
So each product in the Eat-On-Bornholm range already has its own naturalness, which we have tried to preserve from product to product, letting nature decide as much as possible.
