By Per Andersen, designer and founder of Eat-On-Bornholm
A small bowl can hold an entire serving. It can hold savoury dishes, crispy treats, a sauce or that final sweet bite – whilst adding colour, shape and craftsmanship to the table. Eat-On-Bornholm’s ceramics are handmade and designed to stand alone or form part of the modular serving set.
Four types of bowl – from a small side dish to a full meal
- The set of three consists of three small bowls holding approximately 2.5 cl (25 ml), 5.0 cl (50 ml) and 6.0 cl (60 ml) and is available in more than eight colours.
- The clover-shaped bowl holds approximately 75 ml and is available in more than eight colours.
- The Helleskålen bowl holds approximately 425 ml, is available in five colours and is named after Per’s childhood friend from Rønne.
- The Erna bowl holds approximately 500 ml, is available in five colours and is named after Per’s aunt Erna.
Designed to be mixed
Choose a single colour for the entire table setting, or mix and match different glazes. The small bowls can be placed in wooden holders and base plates, whilst the Helle and Erna bowls serve as spacious bowls for breakfast, salad, soup and snacks, for example.
As the ceramics are handmade, the shape, dimensions and glaze may vary slightly. Two bowls may belong to the same range and still have different shades and details. This is the hallmark of craftsmanship – and an important part of Eat-On-Bornholm’s style.
Ceramics as part of a tableware set
The bowls have been designed with combinations in mind. Combine small ceramic bowls with wood, granite or glass, and tailor the presentation to the meal. This could be a Danish lunch, sushi, tapas or accompaniments to a hot dish. As the pieces can be moved and swapped around, the table doesn’t have to look the same every time.
Caring for handmade ceramics
The ceramic bowls are suitable for use in the fridge and are dishwasher-safe. They are not suitable for use in the oven or freezer. Avoid hard knocks, and please note that handmade products may vary slightly in size.
