Design your own serving set using Bornholm granite

Dinner service from Eat-On-Bornholm with a polished granite top in Blå Rønne

By Per Andersen, designer and founder of Eat-On-Bornholm

Bornholm granite lends a meal a sense of calm, substance and a direct connection to the island’s cliffs. At Eat-On-Bornholm, the stone forms part of a flexible tableware range, where you can choose the size, placement and combination with wood, glass and ceramics yourself.

Blå Rønne and Helletsbakke

The granite slabs are available in the ‘Blå Rønne’ and ‘Helletsbakke’ varieties. The natural variations in the stone mean that the colour and texture vary. Each slab therefore has its own unique character, even when it forms part of the same series.

The surface has been polished to beautifully showcase the natural material, and the panels are available in three sizes. Use one as a striking feature in a setting, or combine several to form a larger base.

Serve hot or cold

Granite retains both heat and cold. The slabs are suitable for use in the oven at temperatures up to 250 °C, in the freezer and in the dishwasher. If the stone is to be used as a warm serving or cooking surface, it should be heated for 30–60 minutes. Always follow the product instructions, avoid sudden temperature changes, and handle hot granite using suitable oven gloves.

  • Chill the platter for sushi, cheese, dessert or other cold dishes.
  • Use it to serve dishes that need to stay warm at the table.
  • Use it solely as a serving surface.
  • Place it in a base plate together with glass and ceramics.

A tableware set you can put together yourself

The wooden base plates have cut-outs for various inserts. This makes it possible to rearrange them, change the ingredients and adapt the table to suit the meal. A Danish lunch platter, sushi, tapas, a steak or fish served on a plank with accompaniments can all take on completely different looks using the same system.
