A tapas or cheese platter doesn’t have to be big to feel like something special. The most important thing is that there’s a bit to explore, and that the food is served in such a way that everyone around the table feels like reaching out and having a taste.
At Eat-On-Bornholm, we love that sort of meal. The kind where the food is left in the middle of the table, the conversation carries on, and you help yourself to a bit more whenever you feel like it.
Start with a calm foundation
One wooden serving board adds warmth to the table and is a natural place to arrange bread, cheese, cold meats or fresh fruit. If you’d like a more striking look, a plate in glass, ceramics or Bornholm granite used for contrast.
You don’t have to choose everything in the same material. On the contrary, a beautiful and vibrant look often emerges when the warmth of wood meets polished glass, handmade ceramics or the natural veining of granite.
Divide the food into small portions
Small bowls make it easy to keep olives, pesto, nuts, dips and pickled vegetables separate. At the same time, they can be moved around as the table is being used.
The Trekløver bowls with Trio holder is designed specifically for this type of serving. The three bowls come in different sizes, and the stand can be turned over and used as a small serving board. This offers more options without taking up unnecessary space on the table.
The Helle Bowl and the Erna bowl is ideal when you want a little more of the same – for example, salad, fruit, a dip or a warm dish to share.
Create height and variety
An inviting table can happily feature slight variations in height, shape and colour. Place bowls amongst the flat serving dishes, and group some of the food together rather than spreading everything out.
You can also let the ingredients contribute to the table’s colour scheme. Green olives, red grapes, pale cheeses and dark bread look lovely alongside the natural hues of the materials.
Select by company
For two people, a small plank and a couple of bowls should be plenty. For guests, several platters and bowls can be put together so that the spread can grow as the meal progresses.
The modular serving set from Eat-On-Bornholm makes it easy to expand your collection. You can start with a single base plate and later add new plates, bowls and materials to suit the way you use the table.
Make room for informality
A tapas or cheese platter can look quite personal. It doesn’t have to be completely symmetrical, and not everything needs to be laid out from the start. Let the bread, bowls and small dishes find their place as you go along.
That’s exactly what we love about this style of dining: the food gives us a reason to stay a little longer.
