Our Story – Eat-On-Bornholm

More than just a meal

A meal begins before the first bite is taken. It begins when we decide how the table should look, how the food should be presented, and what atmosphere we want to create.

Design with its roots in Bornholm

Created for the moments we share and remember

Eat-On-Bornholm has been created for that very moment when the table setting takes on a personal touch, and the meal becomes something we share and remember. The design is the work of Per Andersen, who brings Bornholm to life through the materials, colours and shapes surrounding the table.

Wood, ceramics, glass and granite can be used individually or combined in new ways. The customer chooses the look themselves, so every table setting is unique. This same basic concept can bring a sense of calm to everyday meals, create a warm atmosphere for guests and provide a special setting for those moments you’ll want to remember.

What we stand for

Design with purpose

Join us as Per explains the thinking behind Eat-On-Bornholm – and why natural materials, Danish craftsmanship and personal expression mean so much.

Per’s beginnings
“The inspiration comes from Bornholm’s natural surroundings and from the materials around us: wood, granite, glass and ceramics. My aim was to design something unique – something that is never quite the same or identical. Every tree has its own life cycle, granite has been formed over billions of years, and glass and ceramics take on their character through craftsmanship. The final design is created by the customer. The wide range of options allows each customer to create their own unique style.”

From idea to serving design

The first strokes

The development of Eat-On-Bornholm’s dining system began in the summer of 2024 with a pen and paper and a simple idea: the table should be able to adapt to the people, the food and the moment.

Per based the dimensions on the familiar format of a placemat and made the serving bases 400 × 300 mm. This gives them a natural place at each setting, while retaining the freedom to be used for serving and sharing.

The idea behind the system

“The idea was to create a serving base with cut-outs, allowing the customer to choose which material goes where. The set can be used both for serving and for dining.”

Symphony, Harmony and Balance

The names were already on the very first hand-drawn sketches. They explain what the idea was intended to achieve: to create a sense of cohesion between forms and materials, whilst allowing the client to set the tone themselves.

Handmade in Denmark

Uniquely yours

All Eat-On-Bornholm products are handmade. That is why they are never exactly the same. Even the granite is eventually polished by hand. The glaze takes on a life of its own, the colours vary, and the wood’s grain tells its own story.

It is precisely these small variations that give the product its character and make whatever you put on the table your own.

Eat-On-Bornholm’s hand-painted EOB mark on the base of the ceramic piece

A small mark from the hands behind it

EOB stands for Eat-On-Bornholm. The letters are stamped on the base of the ceramic piece as a subtle signature from the people behind it. When the bowl is turned over, the story of the design, the craftsmanship and Bornholm is revealed.

People and memories

Names that mean something

Some products begin with a shape. Others begin with a person. Many of Eat-On-Bornholm’s products bear names and motifs from Per’s own life, making room at the table for the relationships, memories and stories that have left their mark.

The Helle Bowl from Eat-On-Bornholm in a Bornholm setting

The Helle Bowl

The Helle bowl is dedicated to Per’s childhood friend Helle from Rønne. It is a tribute to their long-standing friendship – to people who know you so well that words are sometimes superfluous. Like Helle, the bowl is colourful, positive and full of life.

Holds approximately 425 ml.

The Erna Bowl from Eat-On-Bornholm in a Bornholm setting

The Erna Bowl

The Erna bowl is named after Per’s aunt Erna. Like her, the bowl is spacious, understated and indispensable. It doesn’t make a fuss, but naturally finds its place within the family and on the table – time and time again.

Holds approximately 500 ml.

Bodil Andersen’s original drawing of Bornholm smokehouse chimneys

Røgeri

The design on the ‘Røgeri’ glass plate is based on an original drawing by Per’s mother, Bodil Andersen. Her simple lines capture the characteristic Bornholm smokehouse chimneys, and in the spring of 2025 the design was adapted for glass.

A little family story thus becomes part of new meals and memories.

The personal conclusion

From Per’s hands to your table

Whenever a product from Eat-On-Bornholm is dispatched, it is accompanied by a personal greeting. Each product box contains an insert, and every single one is signed by Per.

It’s a small gesture with great significance. The signature is Per’s way of saying thank you – and of welcoming the product into the meals it is now set to be a part of.

“I want our products to make a meal more than just food – to create a sensory experience where natural materials, fine craftsmanship and a sense of togetherness come together around the table.”
