A good gift is remembered because it feels as though it has been chosen especially for the person opening it. At Eat-On-Bornholm, you’ll find Danish tableware design that brings materials, craftsmanship and little stories to the dining experience. The pieces can be used on their own or combined, so that the gift takes on a character all of its own – from a single handmade bowl to a complete tableware set.
Gifts that become part of everyday life
It’s not just about the looks. A gift becomes precious when it is brought out time and time again: for morning coffee, Friday tapas, sushi with friends or a quiet dinner for two. Eat-On-Bornholm’s products are designed to be functional on the table whilst adding character to the way food is served.
Each material has its own character. Wood brings warmth, ceramics bear the marks of the craftsman’s hand, glass provides colour and light, and granite lends a sense of calm and solidity. The combination can be tailored to the recipient’s home and the way they like to spend time together.
Choose a gift to suit the person
- For those who love a splash of colour: a Helleskål or handmade ceramic bowls with a striking glaze.
- For those who prefer simplicity: a single-colour glass top or a polished granite top with a understated look.
- For the host: A bowl holder with three small bowls for snacks, spices and side dishes.
- For food lovers: A wooden serving board for tapas, lunch and hot dishes.
- For the creative type: A base plate and loose inserts that can be arranged in many different ways.
Handmade means the gift is one of a kind
All ceramics from Eat-On-Bornholm are handmade. Consequently, the glaze, colour variations and small details will vary from bowl to bowl. This is not a fault, but part of the product’s character. The grain of the wood and the texture of the natural stone also make each piece unique.
The products are made in Denmark and inspired by Bornholm’s natural landscape. This makes them the perfect gift for anyone who appreciates authenticity, fine craftsmanship and design with a story behind it.
A gift that can grow
You don’t need to choose a complete set right from the start. Start with a bowl, a plate or a holder, and add to it as and when you need to. The modular serving system allows you to change colours, materials and functions without the original pieces becoming redundant.
Thoughtful gift wrapping
When an item is dispatched from Eat-On-Bornholm, it is packed in a box filled with hay or straw from Danish fields. The product is wrapped in Bornholms Tidende, which is given a new lease of life as packaging, and tied with twine in the sheep’s natural colour, sourced from sheep grazing at Hammershus. The twine is used instead of plastic tape, and a product label on the box makes it suitable for storage afterwards. In this way, we use natural and recycled materials wherever practically possible, whilst also reducing our use of plastic.
Gift ideas for life’s big and small occasions
For a wedding or housewarming, a base plate can be the start of a serving set that the couple can build on themselves. For a birthday or anniversary, a bowl with a personal story behind it can be a warm gesture. And as a hostess gift, a small ceramic bowl or a glass plate is a present that is both practical and easy to personalise.
Also consider how the recipient uses their table. Someone who often hosts large gatherings may find flexible serving platters and small bowls for sharing dishes particularly useful. Someone who enjoys quiet meals might appreciate a single special bowl or plank that has its own permanent place in their daily routine.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sort of present is a good choice if I don’t know the recipient’s style?
Choose a simple wooden or granite piece, or a small ceramic bowl in a muted glaze. It can be used on its own and later combined with other pieces.
Are two handmade bowls exactly the same?
No. The ceramics are handmade, and the colour variations and details differ from piece to piece. That is precisely why each bowl has its own unique character.
Can the gift be expanded later?
Yes. Many components form part of a flexible display system, so the recipient can add other materials, colours and sizes.
